O'Hare, Midway businesses get a break
The city is giving Chicago’s airport concessionaires a reprieve during the pandemic drop in travel.
Under the proposal that cleared the City Council today, concessionaires at Midway and O'Hare won’t have to pay rent for April and May, and they will get a significant break on rent until business is back up to speed.
Monthly concession rent at the airports is calculated either on a percentage of sales or a minimum based on the previous year's sales, a charge known as MAG—whichever is higher. Rents based on last year's sales are now too high for concessionaires to afford, aviation officials say.
